Microsoft Dynamics AX and Project Server Integration

Trust Loyalty Confidence

Microsoft Dynamics AX integrates to Project Server out-the-box:

  • Synchronise Projects, Activities, WBS and Resources
  • Handle resources across multiple projects
  • Integrated to SharePoint
  • Project Financials within Dynamics AX

EPM integration to Dynamics AX

The Microsoft Dynamics AX Project module integrates with Microsoft Project Server in several different ways. These objects are kept synchronized so that if an object is created in Microsoft Dynamics AX, a corresponding object is also created in Project Server.

There are four integration points in Microsoft Dynamics AX. They are:

  • Activities

To match up with the WBS, Microsoft Dynamics AX uses Activities and Activity Hierarchies. For more details on Activities and Activity hierarchies, refer to the Project Accounting I manual.

  • Activity Hierarchies

The synchronization of Activities and Activity hierarchies is performed in a two way interaction. This means that if an activity or activity hierarchy is created in Microsoft Dynamics AX, a corresponding task or WBS is created in Project Server, and if a task or WBS is created in Project Server, a corresponding activity and activity hierarchy is created in Microsoft Dynamics AX.

  • Projects

Projects in Microsoft Dynamics AX and Project Server are kept synchronized. This means that if a Project is created in Microsoft Dynamics AX, it is also created in Project Server and vice versa.

  • Employees

Since the employee table is tied into several other tables in Microsoft Dynamics AX, the synchronization for employees to the resources in Project Server is limited to a one way interaction from Microsoft Dynamics AX to Project Server. This means that if an employee is created in Microsoft Dynamics AX, it is created as a resource in Project Server, but if a resource is created in Project Server, it is not created in Microsoft Dynamics AX as an employee.
